Be the Voice of Angel this Christmas!

Sing-a-long this Christmas and help raise money for charity.

Angel Central have launched their very own Christmas filter and we want you to get involved!

This winter, food banks are expecting to give out an emergency parcel every 9 seconds. Before the year is out, an estimated 670,000 more people could find themselves unable to afford just the essentials, nevermind a Christmas celebration with all the trimmings.

Angel Central is supporting The Trussell Trust – the UK’s largest food bank network – to fundraise for Islington Food Bank and help hundred of local families and people in need.

We’re calling on our Islington locals to channel their inner diva, find their X-Factor, and become the Voices of Angel.

How to get involved and help raise money for charity:
  1. Head over to our Instagram, swipe across from the main grid and tap on the face filter icon
  2. Select our ‘Xmas Karaoke!’ filter and tap ‘Try it’
  3. Record your Christmas karaoke – all you’ve got to do is give us your best Mariah or Bublé!
  4. Post the video to your Story, tag @angel_central and #VoicesOfAngel

For every video posted Angel Central will donate £5 to the Islington food bank.

Be part of a growing movement to create a Hunger Free Future! Visit trusselltrust.org for more information on The Trussell Trust.

Only one video per person will be accepted as an entry for a donation. Users must tag @angel_central and use the hashtag #voicesofangel for the video to count towards a donation.

Chocolate happiness, gifted with elegance

The festive season isn’t just one day. It’s debating when to put up the tree, and when it’s too early for mince pies. It’s making your list and checking it twice. It’s sneaking a shake of your presents, and the look on their faces when they open theirs. At Hotel Chocolat, it’s our mission to help you gift chocolate happiness, never more so than at this time of year.

We invent, create and ribbon-tie your gifts so we can see for ourselves that they’re perfect, down to the finest detail. From festive sleeves, Selector gift boxes and chic bottle bags to Concierge bags and wicker hampers, it’s the attention to detail that means you can look forward to big smiles and you-shouldn’t-have head-tilts when your gifts are opened this year.

Activism in Islington

With Activism and initiatives growing throughout the local area, Islington is at the forefront of climate change action.

The current global circumstances show the importance of how we all must care for our world and each other. Here are a few ways our locals are making a difference.

Tackling the climate emergancy

Islington Council declared a climate emergency in June 2019, recognising the need to drastically reduce carbon emissions in the borough. A pledge was made to work towards being a net zero borough by 2030.

Gen-Z want to be heard!

Hundreds of schoolchildren gathered in 2019 outside Islington town hall for the global climate strike. Eleven schools from across Islington met to demand immediate action on climate change. Campaigners called for the council to use 100 per cent renewable energy.

Award-Winning Initiatives

The Camden Climate Change Alliance and Islington Sustainable Energy Partnership led the first ever cross-borough sustainability awards. The first of its kind cross-borough event brought together organisations from across Camden and Islington, with progress by local businesses in recycling, air quality and carbon reduction all recognised.

Islington Council is working towards a net zero carbon target in the borough by 2030.

Our iconic Angel Wings have taken flight!

YOU RAISE ME UP

It may have been a soar point for local residents, but there’s no need to get into a flap over the future of Angel Central’s wings sculpture. Far from light as a feather, the 12-tonne, 15m angel wing sculpture has been lifted by 3.5m as part of the £16m project, which is due to be completed by the autumn.

It will sit atop a new footbridge and al fresco dining area, having been set in place by a team from RED Construction.

The investment in the redevelopment of Angel Central has been a long-term plan to provide the local community with a reimagined space and enhanced offer that includes more restaurants, outdoor seating and leisure – all building on the existing strong mix within the scheme such as O2 Academy, Vue Cinema and Frame.

Graham Sturge, managing director of Farringdon-based RED Construction, said:

“The raising of the wings was one of the key milestones for this extensive refurbishment project at Angel Central. Our expert team on site worked together, utilising their years of experience and skill, to safely manoeuvre this iconic sculpture to its newly raised position. We had to work within a limited space but the innovative technique we used ensured we delivered this within our short time frame of only 5 days – this is an intricate phase of the project successfully completed”.
