Islington Festival of Music and Art This July

Born out of local garden concerts organised after lockdown in the summer of 2020, the Islington Festival aims to recreate the community spirit that inspired us during that time. The Festival brings people together to experience high-quality live music and art, in different venues throughout the Borough of Islington.

At Angel Central, there will be an exciting new photography exhibition coming up in partnership with The Islington Storyteller / @Islington_London, where you can see how Islington has changed throughout the years. Throughout the year and a half after starting the curation of ‘Islington_London’, their editor, Ana, met and chatted with dozens of locals, each with a unique story to tell. It seemed unfortunate that very few people had the opportunity to discover the multitude of hidden gems our neighbourhood is lucky to have.

For this reason, it felt only natural to create a space for sharing special things about Islington and nearby areas. Alongside ‘Islington_London’, The Islington Storyteller explores some of the most unique stories about our neighbourhood.

Launching in the lead-up to the festival, the exhibition will stay open throughout the festival’s duration and is FREE to attend.

The Do Good Festival: Love Not Landfill Are Returning To Angel Central With Another Incredible Pop-up

Love Not Landfill is a collaborative initiative that aims to combat textile waste and promote sustainable fashion practices. By raising awareness, encouraging conscious consumerism, and fostering creative solutions, Love Not Landfill is leading a transformative revolution in the fashion industry. A non-profit campaign founded by ReLondon, Love Not Landfill encourages fast-fashion fans to buy second-hand, swap, recycle and give to charity.

From 29th June to 2nd July, Love Not Landfill are celebrating the very best second hand clothing that London has to offer. Get ready to shop collections curated by some of Love Not Landfill’s favourite style savvy creators including Char Ellesse for Shelter Shops, Demi Colleen for Fara, Lina Mar for Cancer Research UK, and Nantida Intajak for HURR.

The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to global pollution and waste. The rise of fast fashion has led to a throwaway culture, where clothes are mass-produced, quickly discarded, and end up in overflowing landfills. Love Not Landfill recognizes this pressing issue and seeks to challenge the status quo by encouraging individuals to rethink their fashion choices and embrace sustainable alternatives.

At the core of Love Not Landfill is the belief that every garment deserves a second chance. Instead of discarding clothes, the initiative promotes the principles of reuse, repurposing, and recycling. By extending the life cycle of garments, we can significantly reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry. One of the key initiatives of Love Not Landfill is the concept of clothing swaps. This provides a platform for people to exchange unwanted clothing items with others, giving them a chance to find new treasures while diverting clothes from landfills. Clothing swaps bring a sense of community, promote sustainable consumption, and offer an exciting and affordable way to refresh one’s wardrobe without contributing to the demand for new clothing.

Join Us This Weekend For The Angel Central Sustainable Market

We are incredibly proud to play host to the Sustainable Market at Angel Central. At its core, it provides a stage for London-based ethical and sustainable businesses, crafters and makers to interact with visitors, building lasting connections that serve to form stronger and wider communities in and around Angel.

For this series of The Angel Central Sustainable Market on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May, we will be joined by an assortment of local vendors all with a unique sustainable spin.

This upcoming Saturday brings Holimystic and Present Your Joy to Angel Central, alongside many other exciting stalls. Present Your Joy produces their fossil-free soy candles locally, helping to keep transport to a minimum and thus carbon cost. Holimystic provides us with exquisite hand-crafted jewellery made using ethically sourced gemstones for those lovers of all things holistic and mystical.

Sunday 14th May’s market brings Shana4CupNCakes, the perfect antidote to those Sunday scary’s. The Islington-based artisan cupcake maker creates beautifully baked commissions for clients across London and will be preparing a range of carefully crafted cakes for your own enjoyment.

Alongside our other Sunday stalls, we will be joined by Sabine Gerth and her bespoke leatherwork bags and accessories. Her intricate handmade designs use the highest quality leathers, embellished by her own hand painted pattern work, making them the perfect one-off gifts for loved ones.

Hosted in the outdoor piazza each month, the market is open Saturday and Sunday 11:00-18:00.
