Our local partnerships

Islington Mind

In 2022, Angel Central partnered with local charity Islington Mind, an independent organisation part of the Mind network. Mind campaigns help to create a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all – a society where people with experience of mental distress are treated fairly, positively and with respect.

As the leading mental health organisation in the local area, Islington Mind offers the only unrestricted-access day service in the borough. By providing over 1,000 users a year with a service, Islington Mind aids their recovery through active participation in decisions affecting their daily life in the wider community.

Angel Central’s partnership with Islington Mind was born in October 2022, when the Feel Good Festival launched. Throughout the month, within the Feel Good Hub, we brought together international and national experts, thought leaders, authors and creatives within the wellness spectrum, including Roxie Nafousi and Jasmine Hemsley. A celebration of our visitors, the Feel Good Festival explored important topics such as menopause, men’s mental health, anxiety, skin conditions, and more, as well as encouraged feeling good with breath work classes, yoga and nutrition.

Through a series of charity sales, ticketed seminars and donations, we were delighted to have raised over £2,800 throughout the month for Islington Mind, with all profits going to the charity.

Angel Central is grateful for the opportunity to support Islington Mind, and look forward to continuing support on their incredible community work within the borough of Islington.

Domestic Abuse Conversation Wall

As part of the ongoing Domestic Abuse Development Partnership (DADP), which began in 2022, the recent Domestic Abuse Conversation Wall took place at Angel Central on August 15th, 2024. This initiative, aimed at raising awareness and fostering community dialogue around domestic abuse, invited visitors to share their thoughts, insights, and experiences. Hundreds of people contributed to the wall, leaving powerful messages such as “Speak up!”, “Reaching out and educating”, and “Make people feel empowered in expressing discomfort and remove shame and stigma.”

The DADP was established to improve the experience of women facing domestic abuse in Islington by embedding a relational approach to support. This ongoing initiative continues to make an impact, with the recent Conversation Wall being a significant part of the effort to engage the community.

The success of the event was supported by co-funder City Bridge Foundation, learning partner Ratio, and partners including Islington Council’s VAWG team, Islington Police, Solace Women’s Aid, The Maya Centre, MAASHANTI, and KMEWO charity. Together, they continue to work towards improving awareness and outcomes for survivors of domestic abuse in Islington.

Angel Central remains committed to supporting these crucial efforts and creating a platform for ongoing dialogue and community action.
