Things to do in Islington This July

Summer is finally here (although you wouldn’t be able to tell by the weather), and it’s that time again to start looking at what’s coming up in the next month.

As far as things to do, Islington offers some of the best days/nights out in the North London area, and we’re about to prove it by listing some of the great events happening at these local venues this July.

O2 Academy

We start this list off with Angel Central’s resident live music and events venue, the O2 Academy Islington.

This iconic venue has featured some of the biggest bands around over the years, and continues to be a place for people to make a name for themselves.

Over the next month, there are plenty of events to choose from spanning a variety of genres. For live music fans, you’ve got gigs featuring the likes of Jamie Lenman, Mushroomhead, YBN Cordae and plenty of great new acts at the Loud in London events.

For fans of the club nights, Club de Fromage is on every Saturday night, and you’ve also got I Love the 90s vs I Love the 00s at the start of the month.

Music is not the only thing on at the O2 Academy however, as there is a couple of special live interview events happening such as Keith Buckley from Every Time I Die (which includes a meet & greet) and Attack of the Podcasts Live, which brings together 3 different live podcasts on one bill.

Want to hear great music at great prices? Look no further.

Angel Comedy Club

Angel Comedy Club is the central hub for all things comedy in Islington, and has built up a reputation for providing one of the best nights out in the area.

Spread across 2 venues, Angel Comedy puts on multiple shows each week featuring everyone from newcomers to comedy royalty and the best part about it – it’s usually free! The majority of the events held under the Angel Comedy banner cost nothing, and if they do it’s only a fiver to reserve a seat.

Coming up in July, they’ve got a variety of great comics taking the stage. At The Bill Murray, you’ve got performances from the likes of Stewart Lee, Rob Delaney, Sarah Kendall, Ellie Taylor & Friends and more.

Over at the Camden Head, you’ve got the staple ACC shows with Barry Ferns and Friends, Angel Comedy RAW and Shoot From The Hip Improv Night.

If you’re looking for a lot of laughs at a great price, definitely consider paying a visit to Angel Comedy Club.

Almeida Theatre

For the next 2 entries on this list we’re going to assume you are a fan of the theatre (and if you’re not, now is a good time to start).

The Almeida Theatre hosts a range of fantastic plays featuring some of the country’s best new performers, and they’ve got some great things going on this July.

Starting off with their main show, The Hunt is premiering at the Almeida shortly and will be running from 17th June to 3rd August. Previews have already begun, and we’ve heard great things so far so be sure to check this one out!

As far as other performances go, you’ve also got The Wave and (This Isn’t) A True Story running from 22nd to 24th July. For more information and ticket prices, visit their website.

We’re coming at you with some more examples of the arts next with Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

This Islington based theatre plays host to a range of different shows and exhibitions, and they’ve got some promising performances coming up this July.

At the start of the month, they have the Flamenco Festival London which features a programme filled with fiery flamenco and some of the most legendary names in the art.

Angel Central

Lastly, we can’t create a list about fun things to do in Islington without some (more) self-promotion, can we?

By now, you’ll be well aware of all of the delicious restaurants we’ve got on site and the fantastic shops we have, but you might not be aware at what’s coming up on the big screen.

Vue offers simply the best as far as cinema experiences go, and our resident 10 screen cinema is the perfect place to visit when looking for something to do.

Coming up in July, there’s a range of exciting new releases including Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Lion King, Yesterday and Stuber, as well as other recent films like Toy Story 4, Men In Black: International and Rocketman.

All of these films can be enjoyed at a great price, and need to be accompanied by a huge bag of popcorn for the full experience.

Vue is even hosting a special screening of Balance, Not Symmetry with an acoustic performance by arena rock band Biffy Clyro coming up on 1st August, so be sure to get booked in!
