Here at Angel Central, we’re not just your local shopping centre – but a hub for all things happening in the Islington area.
Now that we’re in full summer mode, let’s get out and enjoy what the local area has to offer. If you think you can pull yourself away from the beer gardens for a night, we’ve listed some fantastic events happening in Islington over the course of August.
Starting this list is Angel Central’s resident live music and events space, the O2 Academy Islington.
Hosting a variety of events across different genres every month, we get so many different kinds of bands and artists putting on shows at the venue.
In August, locals can enjoy live music from the likes of Hoodie Allen, Damon Johnson, Georgia Box and KNK. There is also a special Definitely Maybe 25th Anniversary Party with a Q&A from Alan McGee (founder of Creation Records) and performances from tribute acts Oas-is and Star Shaped.
For fans of the club nights, Club de Fromage is on every Saturday night, and you’ve also got I Love the 90s vs I Love the 00s at the start of the month.
Fan of great nights out at an affordable price? Get down to the O2 Academy.
Angel Comedy Club
Angel Comedy Club is the best place in Islington to find great comedy at consistently great prices, and always promises to be a side splitting night out.
Angel Comedy puts on multiple shows a week across venues The Bill Murray and Camden Head, and features a variety of comedic acts from newcomers to comedy royalty. One of the best parts about these shows is that they are mostly free of charge, and the charged shows are usually only a fiver.
Coming up in August, they’ve got a variety of fantastic acts taking the stage. At The Bill Murray, you’ve got performances from the likes of Phoebe Robinson, Andrew Lawrence, Sam Mitchell and Shane Mauss.
Over at the Camden Head, you’ve got the staple ACC shows with Barry Ferns and Friends, Angel Comedy RAW and Shoot From The Hip Improv Night.
If you love to laugh, Angel Comedy Club is the place for you.
Next up let’s look at some of the mesmerising shows happening at some of Islington’s finest theatres.
The Almeida Theatre continues to host a range of amazing plays written and performed by some of the country’s best, and August brings you The Doctor by Robert Icke.
Running from 10th August to 28th September, not too much is known about this production other than the fact it has been very freely adapted from Arthur Schnitzler’s Professor Bernhardi.
For more information and ticket prices, visit their website.
Continuing with fantastic stage productions, we present entertainment from Sadler’s Wells Theatre as the next entry on this list.
August brings Matthew Bourne’s production of Romeo and Juliet to this Islington theatre, and is being described as a “passionate and contemporary re-imagining” of Shakespeare’s classic story.
Running from 7th to 31st August, this production is a dance heavy affair that is set to capture the attention of Islington’s residents.
We all know the story, but you’ve not seen it like this before. Visit their website to learn more about ticket prices and times.
We end this list with a bit of self-promotion, but it really is the perfect time to come and give us a visit at Angel Central!
With the weather being this nice, it’s almost a crime to not get some friends together and enjoy some quality (shopping) time together. You already know that we have a wide range of fantastic shops on-site, and plenty of delicious restaurants to grab a cold coffee and a tasty meal afterwards.
We’ve also got an amazing 10 screen cinema in Vue for those who would prefer to stare at a screen than the sun.
Coming up in August, you’ve got new films in Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw and The Angry Birds Movie 2, as well as recent releases like The Lion King and Spider-Man: Far From Home. They are even showing some of Quentin Tarantino’s best films as part of Tarantino Season, running from 6th to 13th August.
We mentioned this last month, but Scottish arena rock band Biffy Clyro will be giving a special acoustic performance to accompany a special screening of Balance, Not Symmetry on 1st August, so don’t miss out!
And that is our list! As always, you are never short of things to do in Islington, especially during the summer time.
If you’ve got any special events planned or we’ve missed something crucial off this list, be sure to let us know!
