Located off the ever-hip Upper Street, Angel Central Shopping Centre (formerly known as The N1 Centre) has a vibrant and stylish collection of shops, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and music venues under its roof. Whether you want to watch the latest movies and share a family-sized popcorn snack, or dine out for two on something more extravagant, Angel Central offers you that choice.
We all love love. It’s a feeling that is unlike any other, and we’ve all experienced it a lot throughout our lives. A lot of us go chasing that feeling, but many people don’t realise that location actually plays a big part in setting the mood.
We like to think that our local area of Islington is a romantic place and there are definitely a few special places that are bound to give you the heart eyes emoji expression.
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we’ve listed some of our favourite romantic spots around Islington.
It wouldn’t be an Angel Central list if we didn’t offer up our fantastic Shopping Centre as a perfect date night location.
As far as restaurants go, we’ve got plenty of variety to choose from. If you’re looking for quality Italian food, we’ve got Bella Italia. If you fancy some tasty Asian dishes then Wagamama is perfect. If you’re looking for a juicy burger or some classic British food, we’ve got Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Jones & Sons.
We’ve even got our own Vue cinema on site, perfect for getting up to date with the latest romantic flicks. Catching a movie is a classic date for a reason and who are we to argue with a classic? The sweet scent of popcorn is enough to make anyone “feel the love”.
Sit back and get ready for a night filled with fun (and potentially tears) as you lose yourself in a great film and then discuss your thoughts over a lovely dinner afterwards.
Compton Terrace Gardens
If you’re searching for a quiet spot for a romantic walk, Compton Terrace Gardens is the place.
Stretching nearly 70 metres along Upper Street, walking down this street will give you plenty of time to get to know someone whilst being surrounded by some breathtaking flowers and foliage. Compton Terrace Gardens also features seating where you can chat the night away among the trees, falling in love in the process.
Strolling through the beautiful scenery will make any date feel like a walk in the park (pun fully intended).
Angel Comedy Club
Now going to a comedy show might not necessarily be the first thing that springs to mind when thinking about romance, but hear us out.
Our local comedy spot has a history of putting on some amazing acts over its 2 locations (Camden Head and The Bill Murray), including the likes of Eddie Izzard, Romesh Ranganathan and Sara Barron in recent times.
Enjoying a night of laughs is actually a perfect date because everybody loves to laugh and there’s something almost magical about seeing someone properly laughing for the first time. This kind of entertainment can work as a great ice breaker and allow you both to feel comfortable around each other a lot quicker. If you’re looking for a date that’s a little bit different, give this place a try.
The Almeida Theatre
For any fans of the theatre, we’re sure you’re already aware of The Almeida’s fantastic reputation as a wonderful place to enjoy some quality entertainment.
The Almeida Theatre has played host to some absolutely fantastic performances over the years and has been known to act as a launching pad for many now famous British performers.
It would be another list in itself to list all of the famous people that have graced the stage at The Almeida before, but just a few examples include Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jonathan Pryce, Gemma Arterton, Matt Smith and Ben Whishaw. If you’re trying to impress someone with your passion for art and culture, this is a good start.
Quirky, unique and classic are all words that can perfectly describe Camden Passage and it’s an Islington sight that needs to be experienced.
Vintage clothes shops, record stores, art galleries and more await anyone taking a trip through Camden Passage. The totally unique range of shops separates this street from other shopping areas, and could be just the place for bonding over a love for anything vintage.
It also has various cafes and restaurants to enjoy some quality coffee and capture some perfect shots for Instagram (don’t lie, we know you do it).
If you’re someone who loves rooting through old antique shops or flicking through vintage vinyl crates to find something new to spin, this is right up your alley (literally).
The Bar With No Name
Now delving into the really romantic and mysterious parts of Islington, The Bar With No Name’s menu alone gives off a sense of elegance and taste.
Serving up a selection of cheeses or olives with a range of delicious sounding and interestingly named cocktails, this cocktail bar is an ideal spot for anyone trying to impress. The room is decorated with a mixture of “1950s Italian Cafe style with a Film Noir feel”, and if that doesn’t sound fancy then we don’t know what does.
If you’re after a place for a drink with a unique atmosphere, this bar is ideal. Look out for the lantern outside to find the location.
And that’s our list! As you can see, Islington is not short of places to go if you’re looking to feel the love, and this is only a small handful of places in the local area where you can enjoy some romance.
