2019 is finally here and that means now is the time to reflect on life and set some goals for the year ahead.
Starting a new year is the perfect opportunity to take a look at yourself and figure out some aspirations going forward, but weve all been guilty of not seeing them through before.
Some people will set resolutions that tend to be unattainable or simply unrealistic, so weve thought of a few good examples of achievable resolutions that could improve your day to day life.
Make Date/Social Night A Thing
Finding the time in your adult life to hang out with friends or dress up and go out on dates is hard and every one of us has forgotten to make time for this from time to time.
On the flip side, trying to fill your week with constant nights out and brunches with friends will leave you feeling burnt out and wanting some alone time. This is where dedicating a specific night once a week will come in handy.
Everyone gets busy, but dedicating one night a week to going out for some food or visiting the local Vue cinema is the perfect way to ensure you are spending time with loved ones and keeping these relationships thriving.
Plus knowing you have plans to go out at least once a week will mean its okay to spend the rest of your free time curled up on the sofa with a good film and a hot drink.
Go Vegetarian Once A Week
One of the most popular resolutions that a lot of people attempt after a meat-filled Christmas is to go vegetarian.
Switching to a vegetarian lifestyle shouldnt be a whim decision and takes dedication to see through. Completely cutting meat out of your diet can be a bit of a shock to the system, especially if you havent prepared a range of alternatives.
You will often find that people who quit meat cold turkey (no pun intended) will struggle to keep up with the lifestyle change and will soon cave in to their previous habits.
To make this lifestyle change a bit more manageable, we suggest dedicating one day a week to being vegetarian and going from there. Once youve started to find great veggie dishes you like and tasty alternatives to the real thing, youll find going full vegetarian a lot easier.
Taking this step by step approach rather than a snap decision will ensure that you stick to this new change of diet. Plus there are some great new dishes on offer from our restaurants such as Itsu, Wagamama and Bella Italia to support a plant-based diet!
Invest In A Good Read
We all face a lot of dead time in our day to day life, from commuting to cooking the dinner to bathroom breaks – so why not fill that time with something productive?
The answer to filling this blank space with a productive task? Read a book!
Books can be a great form of entertainment, or fantastic when it comes to self-improvement (a very popular option come the end of the year). Theres so much to learn from books and magazines, and youll often get more from them than scrolling through the latest snaps on Instagram.
There has never been a better time to be a fan of reading as well, with hundreds of thousands of books available at the press of a button. Thanks to the use of smartphones and Kindles, reading on the go is easier than ever.
People often complain there is no time to sit down and read, but this excuse isnt applicable anymore. Start 2019 off by getting lost in a good book – youll thank us later.
Be Realistic With Cutting Down On Phone Time
Were sure that youve already read a million articles about how reducing your screen time dramatically needs to be at the top of your resolutions list, but this is easier said than done.
As much as wed all like to live in a world without seeing everyone glued to their phones, we would ultimately suffer without the comfort of our smartphones. Youre essentially carrying around a mini computer in your pocket every day, and the amount of positives outweighs the negatives.
We definitely encourage people to spend time away from their screens, but trying to cut it out completely will usually just cause inconvenience. Maybe just try spending less time on Facebook and more time reading helpful articles or finding the nearest restaurant.
If youre really serious about cutting down on your phone usage, you can change the settings to set specific time limits on apps.
Dont Be Extreme With Diets
After eating mountains of sweets and chocolates over the Christmas period, it can be too easy to want to cut out all junk food and go on a crazy, extreme diet in January – but this isnt necessarily a good thing.
Removing bad foods from your diet completely isnt the way to go, and will usually end up making you feel worse. When trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle, its important to balance out your meals and still have treats you enjoy.
Restricting yourself from having anything remotely bad for you will only make you want to eat that bad food even more, and youll soon find yourself surrounded by crisp packets and sweet wrappers after finally caving in.
In order to avoid the feeling of failure, work out a happy medium between enjoying the sweeter things in life and food that is good for the body.
If youre looking to eat out without having to compromise your better eating habits, all of the restaurants at Angel Central offer a range of delicious healthy dishes. To learn more about the food options available at Angel Central, click the dining tab at the top of the page.
Be More You
Most importantly, the best resolution and easiest one to stick to is to continue just being yourself.
We all like to try and make drastic changes whenever we enter a New Year, but ultimately its important to do the things that make us happy and lead a life that we enjoy.
The key to sticking to your New Years Resolutions is to set realistic ones that you are really passionate about doing and will improve your life. Instead of setting the bar too high and trying to change everything about yourself, give yourself attainable goals and you will feel a lot better by the end of 2019.
Have you got any other New Years Resolutions? Wed love to hear them! Heres looking forward to a great 2019 for Angel Central and all of our fantastic customers.
