Our local partnerships.
Islington Mind
In 2022, Angel Central partnered with local charity Islington Mind, an independent organisation part of the Mind network. Mind campaigns help to create a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all – a society where people with experience of mental distress are treated fairly, positively and with respect.
As the leading mental health organisation in the local area, Islington Mind offers the only unrestricted-access day service in the borough. By providing over 1,000 users a year with a service, Islington Mind aids their recovery through active participation in decisions affecting their daily life in the wider community.
Angel Central’s partnership with Islington Mind was born in October 2022, when the Feel Good Festival launched. Throughout the month, within the Feel Good Hub, we brought together international and national experts, thought leaders, authors and creatives within the wellness spectrum, including Roxie Nafousi and Jasmine Hemsley. A celebration of our visitors, the Feel Good Festival explored important topics such as menopause, men’s mental health, anxiety, skin conditions, and more, as well as encouraged feeling good with breath work classes, yoga and nutrition.
Through a series of charity sales, ticketed seminars and donations, we were delighted to have raised over £2,800 throughout the month for Islington Mind, with all profits going to the charity.
Angel Central is grateful for the opportunity to support Islington Mind, and look forward to continuing support on their incredible community work within the borough of Islington.
Angel Central Community Forest
In 2022, the Angel Central Community Forest was created from trees donated by Project Everyone. The Community Forest branched from Somerset House’s Forest for Change initiative and part of a wider tree planting and regeneration in the Islington area – the result of sponsorship by Angel Central and the partnership between the centre, Islington Clean Air Parents and Islington Council.
Throughout the year, Angel Central helped with the delivery and planting of trees and plants across the borough of Islington, supporting various community partners through team volunteering days, events and other initiatives.

Islington Forest For Change
Islington Clean Air Parents (ICAP) is a community group campaigning to protect the health of children in the borough from toxic air pollution. In the summer of 2021, as part of the London Design Biennial’s Forest for Change installation, Somerset House became host to 200 trees, which ICAP successfully crowdfunded to permanently re-home. This community collaboration demonstrates how trees address climate change, reduce air pollution, increase greenery and boost physical and mental wellness.
Hugh Myddleton School
We’re living in a time when artificial turf, rubber crumb and tarmac are the surfaces of choice for school play areas. Whilst this is a practical solution for low-maintenance playgrounds, the environmental impact is – in the long term – indefensible. Hugh Myddelton is bucking the trend by planting a diverse range of real hedgerow plants around the Spa Green Nursery, to provide year-round wildlife habitats and a dense air pollution barrier between the play areas and the local roads.
King Square Gardens
Just south of the Angel Islington, King Square Gardens is designated as a Site of Local Importance to Nature Conservation. Recently redeveloped as part of a council strategy to help children live healthy, active and independent lives, the park includes a children’s play area with a large sand pit, interactive water play feature, and accessible children’s toilets.
Culpeper Community Gardens
A green oasis in the midst of streets, estates and inner city bustle, Culpeper Community Garden is one of the most valued green public spaces in Islington. Culpeper is a beautiful public open space which is both a city park and an environmental community project. Managed by and for local people, it is an award winning project where people from all walks of life come together to appreciate and enhance their environment.
Islington Climate Centre
The Islington Climate Centre is a lively hub for local community groups and residents who want to address the impact of the changing climate on one of North London’s most vibrant boroughs.
Steered by a team of Islingtonites, the Centre is community-focused, locally inspired and inclusive, helping local residents address the seemingly intractable problems of climate and ecological breakdown, both within the community and beyond.
Climate-focused events and activities have included panels and workshops on zero waste and plastic-free living, swap shops and repair parties, Make and Mend festivals, kids activities, film screenings and much more.
